Summer

The single-most important factor in a camper's experience is the counselors -- those hand-picked men and women who will be a camper's biggest fan, friend, and spiritual coach. Our staff are trained to meet campers wherever they may be spiritually, and then to engage them in relevant and relational conversation concerning the Jesus of the Bible.

Recruited primarily from The Navigators collegiate ministries (over 90 campuses across the country), young men and women (many former campers themselves) will invest their lives in our Eagle Lake campers as part of our summer staff. Our staff is exposed to a philosophy of a hands-on ministry approach that emphasizes excellence, wholeheartedness, and faithfulness in all areas, with plenty of feedback, evaluated experience, and personal care from our full-time staff.

Each of our staff members is carefully screened with three character references, criminal background checks, past-employer references, an in-depth application, and a personal interview. Once accepted, they each take part in a customized 10-day orientation (3 weeks for Excursion staff), during which they are trained and prepared for the upcoming summer of ministry.

Staff development continues throughout the summer in the form of weekly inductive Bible studies, Nav speakers, one-on-one mentoring and accountability from experienced leadership and deep relationships with 80 other like-hearted college-aged students.

Opportunities for summer staff range from serving as a Rez Counselor at the Eagle Lake property, leading campers in Bible studies, games and outdoor activities, to serving on as a Day/Mobile camp counselor, taking the Eagle Lake program to Colorado Springs and other locations around the State. For those with specific interests like horses, outdoor activities such as rock-climbing or mountain biking, serving with our Equestrian program or Excursions program might be a good fit. Those interested in discipleship and working with older youth might be interested in serving with our Crew program, working with high school aged youth. Other opportunities include Kitchen, Medical or Facilities staff, Videographer and Photographer.

It helps to be a little nuts, too!

Counselors are “Jesus with boots on,” the most vital part of horse camp, as they model God’s love to campers.

Excursions Counselors - (Dates: May 17 - August 12, 2012)

We are looking for people who love God, like working with kids, and have a taste for adventure and hard physical work. TOs receive training in the wilderness programs (backpacking, rock climbing, etc) and may even have an opportunity to be a co-counselor. They will also be called upon to facilitate our high ropes courses, belay rock climbs, and provide other logistical assistance to the various excursions programs. The TO is a vital position and requires someone who is highly organized, detail-minded, and task-oriented.

Crew Counselors - (Dates: May 17 - August 12, 2013)

An extended work/discipleship program for high school students, our Crew program requires staff who know how to work hard and have fun while equipping kids in their walks with God. Weekend activities include campouts, beach days, hiking, and hanging out with some pretty amazing high school campers who have given up half of their summers to be part of the Crew. Whether on our Service Crew, Horse Crew, Office Crew, or Kitchen Crew, if you have heart to pour into high school students who are eager to learn and grow, this is a perfect fit.

We even provide a state-of-the-art Final Cut digital editing system and Canon digital camera, Apple G5 and all the training you’ll need for success.

Photographer - (Dates: May 22 - August 12, 2013)

We are looking for someone who finds the idea being the paparazzi for a couple hundred crazy kids appealing.
