First Time Camper Guide
This guide is long, we have a lot to say! Read as little or as much as you’d like to understand the full camp experience.
We are so excited to meet you!

Our History
To really understand Eagle Lake, its helpful to know where we came from! We’re grateful for a rich history filled with God’s faithfulness, dedicated people, and unforgettable adventures. Since 1957, our story has been unfolding, and we can’t wait to see what God has in store next.
Who runs camp today?
From Camper to Director, Jenny Dordal shares her heart for camp in this video!
Did she say it takes at least 5 loving adults to invest in your camper in order to produce a lasting faith?!
Our counselors are the heartbeat of Eagle Lake. More than staff, they’re mentors and friends who protect, care for, and play alongside your camper, helping each child feel seen, known, and deeply loved.
We take that responsibility seriously, searching nationwide for college students and young adults who love Jesus and love kids. Every counselor is carefully selected, thoroughly background checked, well trained, and invested in so they can lead and love campers like Christ.
How We Find and Equip Our Counselors
Hiring Process
Our counselors go through in-depth interviews with experienced full-time staff, three reference checks, and five state and federal background checks. We hire only about 40% of applicants because we’re intentional about who represents Eagle Lake. Most of our staff come from Christian colleges or campus ministries and all of them are actively growing in their faith.
Training Before Camp
Each leadership team connects through remote check-ins and Bible studies during the winter and spring before arriving for two weeks of orientation. Training covers Eagle Lake’s core values and Navigator philosophies, discipleship methods, child protection, safety, and age-appropriate fun. Counselors also learn to lead Bible studies confidently and point campers and families toward Jesus.
Mid-Summer Accountability
Throughout the summer, staff meet weekly with supervisors for performance support and with disciplers for personal spiritual growth. Teams also revisit key training topics weekly to keep skills sharp and hearts focused on serving campers well.
Our Purpose
So, what is it that our staff are so excited about? At Eagle Lake, our purpose is to inspire Christ-centered love and commitment through counselor relationships in the midst of exciting outdoor experiences.

Day Camps
Eagle Lake Day Camps give kids ages 6-17 the chance to experience all the fun of camp without staying overnight. You can join us at one of our Stationary Day Camps for a week, or the whole summer, or let us bring the adventure to your community through our Day Camp On Location programs at local churches and schools.
