Camper Safety
Our Top Priority
Our Commitment
Eagle Lake is committed to being a place where your camper is safe to laugh, play, and learn to love like Jesus. We also ask each camper to contribute to this goal by reciting the Camper Commitment at the beginning of every camp program and standing by it throughout the week.
At Eagle Lake Camps, your child’s safety matters to us. This page exists to give you a clear picture of how we care for campers, how we hire and train our staff, and the systems we have in place so your child can fully enjoy camp in a safe, supportive environment. Our goal is simple: for Eagle Lake Camps to be a place where your camper is safe to laugh, play, and learn to love like Jesus.
How We Keep Campers Safe
The Rule of 3, Zero Tolerance, and Leaders Everywhere aren't just pithy sayings at camp, they're how we operate with camper safety at the forefront of our minds. We've learned some things over the past 70 years and hold our programs to the highest standards in camping by being American Camp Association (ACA) accredited and licensed in the State of Colorado.
Who We Hire and How We Train
To work at Eagle Lake, staff must undergo a rigorous screening process that includes multiple background checks and references. Once they arrive, a two-week orientation and ongoing summer training helps to ensure that campers in their care are kept safe physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Staff facilitate age-appropriate discipleship conversations and model Christ-like love rather than force spiritual responses or faith decisions.
Food at Camp
We have designed our menu to complement any special diet your camper might have. We have also designed our kitchen space to be peanut free, gluten friendly, and dairy friendly. We have a separate clean area dedicated to preparing all dietary needs. All meals served will have a separate line for dietary needs (Gluten Free, Dairy Free, etc.). Our kitchen staff have all been trained in food safety and adhere to strict guidelines. If you have further questions or suggestions please reach out to us, we would love to hear from you.
What You Can Do
We know that we are not the primary disciplers of our campers. That honor belongs their parents and guardians. As we partner together for the kids and for the kingdom, we have compiled a list of our favorite content and resources to use to disciple children.
What are your emergency procedures in keeping camp safe?
Missing Camper
If a camper goes unexpectantly missing from their group, our leadership team will conduct a quick and thorough search of common places the camper may be. If, after 15 minutes the camper is not found, all campers will be called to a central meeting location, and another larger scale search will take place. If, at a maximum of 1 hour has gone by and the camper is still not located, both camper parents and local authorities will be contacted.
Active Violent Threat
In the case of an active violent threat, local authorities will be called immediately. Our overnight property has a trained emergency response team on site. Counselors are trained to remove campers from the immediate location of a threat by retreating to a safe location and await proper law enforcement instruction.
Natural Disasters
In the case of a tornado, our staff are trained to shelter in a safe location on the lowest level of a building away from windows and external doors. In the event of a nearby wildfire, we will evacuate the property and implement our reunification process (see below). In the event of a flood, we will retreat to high ground until local authorities are able to give further instruction.
Reunification Process
During an emergency that requires an evacuation (Overnight property, Day Camp at Glen Eyrie or Day Camp at Flying Horse), parents will be communicated with via text, email, or phone call. An alternate pick-up location will be offered either at: Woodland Park Community Church (800 Valley View Dr Woodland Park, CO 80863), Navigators Headquarters (3820 North 30th Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80904) or another location determined safe at that time. Normal authorized pick up with an ID will be followed. An authorized guardian must be listed on the authorized pick-up section of registration. This can be updated in your account or by emailing us!
